Frida Kahlo

The 3rd graders are working on portraits of Frida Kahlo. She is a very important Mexican artist–perfect for our Mexico unit in art class! The challenge: taking your drawing beyond the boundaries of the white drawing paper and into the frame. Even ninja turtles love Frida!

I was shopping at the Hallmark store and was inspired by a Mexican piñata ornament with a poinsettia in the center. The 3rd graders turned this inspiration into these splendid Mexican stars which could be displayed as they are or turned into ornaments. Beautiful work as always, 3rd grade!

Imaginary Friends

Working on an imaginary friends collaborate be art project with the art teacher and students at Arbor Hills! K-2nd grade artists created their own imaginary friend inspired by this book:

What imaginations my students have! Mrs. Ardner at Arbor Hills and her students will select drawings to be turned into 3D creations! So exciting! I can’t wait to see which imaginary friends are chosen, and I’m so glad I don’t have to make the final decision!! Fantastic drawings, K-2!

Drawing examples from Ms. Reynolds’ 2nd grade class.
